Invincible Devs on Crafting a Playable Episode Story Mode

Author : Dylan Jan 15,2026

Invincible VS has just revealed its eighth playable fighter: Cecil Stedman. As the pragmatic director of the Global Defense Agency, his inclusion comes as a surprise to the roster. With no innate superpowers, it’s hard to picture him surviving more than a moment against heavy-hitters like Omni-Man and his allies. Yet Invincible creator Robert Kirkman insisted Cecil be part of the game, challenging the developers at Quarter Up to craft a viable kit for him.

Their solution was to leverage the advanced gadgets Cecil employs throughout the Invincible series—a move that helps balance the scales in this 3v3 tag-team fighter. But there’s more: Invincible VS features a substantial Story Mode where Cecil plays a pivotal role. While Kirkman and Quarter Up remain tight-lipped on specifics, they describe it as a “playable episode,” raising anticipation for what’s to come.

In this IGN interview, Kirkman, executive producer Mike Willette, art director Dan Eder, and narrative director Mike Rogers share what they can about Story Mode and break down how Cecil functions in combat. Read on to learn whether Invincible VS is considered canon to the show, get details on Cecil’s abilities, and much more.
