Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Mountaintop Studios, the developer behind the newly released FPS title Spectre Divide, has announced significant price reductions for in-game skins and bundles following immediate player backlash. The price adjustments, implemented mere hours after launch, address widespread criticism concerning the initial cost of cosmetic items.

Price Cuts and Refunds

Game director Lee Horn revealed a price decrease ranging from 17% to 25% across weapons and outfits. The studio issued a statement acknowledging player feedback and committing to the permanent price reductions. Furthermore, players who purchased items before the price adjustment will receive a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.

This refund also extends to those who purchased the Founder's or Supporter packs and subsequently acquired items from the Starter pack, Sponsors, or Endorsement upgrades – categories that remain unaffected by the price changes.

Mixed Reactions and Future Outlook

Despite the price adjustments, player reaction remains divided, mirroring the game's current "Mixed" rating on Steam (49% negative at the time of writing). While some players appreciate the developer's responsiveness to feedback, others express concerns about the timing of the changes and suggest further improvements, such as the ability to purchase individual items from bundles. Negative sentiment persists, with some players questioning the game's long-term viability given the initial pricing controversy and the increasing competition within the free-to-play market. The future success of Spectre Divide hinges on Mountaintop Studios' ability to address ongoing player concerns and build trust within the community.
