The initial network test for *Elden Ring Nightreign*, currently underway, has been plagued by significant server issues, preventing many players from experiencing the game. Reports from IGN staff who had access to the test highlighted severe server problems that persisted for the first hour of the test, rendering the game inaccessible.
The situation was dire enough that FromSoftware took to social media to acknowledge the server congestion that was hindering players from finding matches. The developer issued an apology and encouraged players to attempt matchmaking again after some time had passed.
Compounding the issue is the limited window for the *Elden Ring Nightreign* network test, which is only available during five three-hour sessions on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S from February 14 to February 17. The schedule for these sessions is as follows:
Elden Ring Nightreign network test session timings:
- February 14: 3am-6am PT / 6am-9am ET
- February 14: 7pm-10pm PT / 10pm-1am ET
- February 15: 11am-2pm PT / 2pm-5pm ET
- February 16: 3am-6am PT / 6am-9am ET
- February 16: 7pm-10pm PT / 10pm-1am ET
Bandai Namco described the network test as a "preliminary verification test" where selected testers play a segment of the game before its official launch. They emphasized that this "large-scale Network Stress Test" aims to assess various facets of the online system's functionality and performance, urging players to participate in enhancing *Elden Ring Nightreign*.
While it's preferable that these server issues are being addressed now rather than at the game's full launch in May, players who set aside time to participate in the test have voiced their frustrations. There's hope that future sessions will proceed more smoothly.
*Elden Ring Nightreign* is a standalone co-operative spin-off from FromSoftware, set in a world parallel to that of 2022's *Elden Ring*. The network test allows three players to collaborate, guiding their chosen Nightfarers in battles against new threats, navigating an ever-changing map, and confronting increasingly difficult bosses, with the ultimate goal of defeating the Nightlord. Bandai Namco noted that the test incorporates a three-day-and-night cycle that squads must survive.
Last year, IGN had the chance to visit FromSoftware and experience an early build of *Elden Ring Nightreign*. The impression was overwhelmingly positive, with IGN stating that the game "takes the cautious dungeon crawls of *Elden Ring* and turbocharges them into propulsive, slash ‘n’ dash speedruns."
