Destruction has long defined the Battlefield series, and DICE is set to elevate the chaos with even more dynamic rubble-creating action in the next installment.
The studio recently released a video and a Battlefield Labs Community Update to showcase what’s coming in the next chapter of the Battlefield franchise. In pre-alpha footage, DICE highlights destruction mechanics, such as an explosion collapsing a building’s side to create a new pathway through the structure.

Destruction opens up creative gameplay possibilities, and in the Community Update, DICE emphasized its focus on adding depth by allowing players to reshape their surroundings. Whether demolishing a wall for a surprise attack or clearing a new route to a key objective, removing obstacles can shift the tide of battle.
“We’re crafting destruction with clear visual and audio cues to help players identify what can be destroyed, altered, or reshaped during gameplay,” DICE explained. “Our goal is to make destruction a core part of the Battlefield experience, creating an intuitive, engaging, and rewarding environment where players feel empowered to mold the world around them.”
Various actions will impact structures like walls; explosions are a given, but bullets will also gradually break them down, allowing players to shoot through surfaces. Audio effects will signal when these efforts are effective.
The aftermath of destruction leaves lasting marks on the battlefield. For instance, rubble from a demolished building section will remain, offering potential cover for players. The next Battlefield clearly prioritizes destruction as a central feature.
The upcoming game, informally dubbed “Battlefield 6,” is steadily taking form. While official details remain scarce, gameplay leaks have sparked enthusiasm among Battlefield fans. The series is returning to a modern setting, with a release expected in Electronic Arts’ fiscal year 2026, spanning April 2025 to March 2026. However, this timeline could shift if major competitors announce conflicting release dates.
With significant effort invested in this new chapter, the upcoming Battlefield is aiming high. Perfecting level destruction feels like a promising move in the right direction.
