Application Description

Thai Chess, also known as Makruk, is an intriguing board game played on an 8x8 grid, mirroring the dimensions of classical chess. While the initial setup closely resembles that of traditional chess, there are notable differences: the white queen starts on the e1 square, and the white king on the d1 square, positioning each king to the left of his queen from the player's perspective. Additionally, pawns are positioned on the third rank for white and the sixth rank for black.

The movement of key pieces in Thai Chess includes:

  • King: Moves one square in any direction—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—similar to European chess. Castling is not permitted.
  • Rook: Can move any number of free squares vertically or horizontally, akin to its counterpart in classical chess.
  • Pawn: Advances one square forward and captures one square diagonally forward, just as in European chess.

The game supports various play modes, including single-player against AI, local multiplayer on the same device, and online multiplayer against opponents worldwide.

Additional Piece Movements:

  • Queen: Limited to moving only one square diagonally.
  • Bishop: Can move one square diagonally in any direction or one square forward vertically.
  • Knight (Horse): Follows the same movement pattern as in European chess, moving two squares in one direction and then one square perpendicular to that.

A unique rule regarding pawns in Thai Chess is that they can only be promoted to the equivalent of a queen upon reaching the sixth rank.

Victory Conditions: The objective remains to checkmate the opponent's king, as in classical chess. A stalemate results in a draw.

This game offers a fascinating twist on traditional chess, blending familiar rules with unique elements that challenge players to adapt their strategies.
