Tarneeb is a card game for two teams, each consisting of two players sitting opposite each other at a table. The game uses a standard 52-card deck, and play proceeds counter-clockwise. Each player attempts to estimate the number of "Allmat" (tricks) their team can win in each round.
The player who wins the bid to declare "Tarneeb" throws a type of paper onto the floor. Other players must then throw papers of the same type. The player who throws the matching paper first wins the trick ("Bamh"). If a player doesn't have a matching paper, they forfeit the opportunity to declare "Tarneeb." "Tarneeb" papers are considered more powerful than any other paper type; the player throwing the strongest "Tarneeb" paper wins, unless a stronger "Tarneeb" paper is played.
The round ends when all players have played their cards. Points are tallied. A team's bid must be met or exceeded to gain points. If successful, the team adds the number of "Allmat" won to their score. If unsuccessful, the number of "Allmat" won by the opposing team is added to their score, and the bidding team loses points.
If either team wins 13 tricks without bidding for 13, 16 points are added to their total. If a team bids for and wins 13 tricks, they gain 26 points. If a team bids for 13 tricks and fails, they lose 16 points.
The game concludes when one team reaches a total score of 41 or more points. That team is declared the winner.
