Konami had a major announcement at its Konami Press Start Live showcase: a remake of the original Silent Hill.
The Silent Hill remake is officially in development at Bloober Team, the studio behind the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake.
Unfortunately, details are scarce, but the showcase featured a brief teaser with the Silent Hill logo and its signature music. No release date was provided. For a full rundown, see all the announcements from Konami Press Start Live in June 2025.
Back in February, Bloober Team revealed it had signed a deal with Konami to develop a new title based on the Japanese company’s IP, following the successful launch of the Silent Hill 2 remake. Now we know it’s for a remake of the first Silent Hill game.
Silent Hill burst onto the scene in 1999 as a PlayStation title, positioning itself as a rival to Resident Evil. It introduced the series' signature foggy environments, third-person perspective, and the unsettling town of Silent Hill. Players follow Harry Mason as he searches for his missing adopted daughter, Cheryl—encountering numerous horrors along the way.
With the Silent Hill 2 remake selling 2 million copies, it’s no surprise Konami has greenlit another remake. And it makes sense for the first game to be next in line. In an IGN poll, more than 61% of the 20,000 participants chose Silent Hill as the next title Konami should remake.
Here is the official statement from Bloober CEO Piotr Babieno, released in February:
Konami, a legendary force in the gaming world, needed a partner to revitalize one of its most iconic series—Silent Hill. Bloober Team was chosen for its mastery of horror and atmospheric storytelling. In 2021, the two companies signed a partnership agreement. During the official Silent Hill Transmission livestream in October 2022, it was announced that Bloober Team was developing a remake of Silent Hill 2, often considered one of the finest psychological horror games ever made.
The remake’s success demonstrated that Bloober Team had masterfully recreated the original’s mood and depth while adding important new elements. The game was praised by players, earning an 86/100 on Metacritic and 88/100 on OpenCritic, plus several awards, including Game of the Year 2024 from IGN Japan and Best Horror Game at the IGN Community Awards.
The trust built through Silent Hill 2’s success paved the way for another agreement on a new project. This deal fits Bloober Team’s strategy of expanding its internal development under a first-party structure.

The Silent Hill 2 remake launched on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on October 8, 2024 (an Xbox Series X and S version has yet to be confirmed), and within days had sold 1 million copies. This likely made it the fastest-selling Silent Hill game ever, though Konami has not officially verified that record.
IGN’s review of the Silent Hill 2 remake scored it 8/10, stating: “Silent Hill 2 is an excellent way to experience—or revisit—one of the most chilling locations in survival horror history.”
The strong sales of the Silent Hill 2 remake have clearly bolstered Konami’s ambitions for the franchise, which have expanded considerably in recent years. Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall are still in development. Now we have the Silent Hill remake as well. Additionally, a film adaptation of Silent Hill 2 is on the way.
