The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered made an impressive debut on Steam, reaching a peak of over 180,000 concurrent players on launch day.
Following Bethesda's surprise release of Oblivion Remastered on April 22, the game quickly rose to Steam's top-selling list by revenue, surpassing popular titles like Counter-Strike 2, the breakout hit Schedule I, and the recently updated Overwatch 2 from Blizzard.
Yesterday, Oblivion Remastered ranked as the fourth most-played game on Steam, trailing only Counter-Strike 2, PUBG, and Dota 2. It now holds the title of Steam's most-played single-player RPG, outpacing Baldur's Gate 3's resurgence, and boasts a 'Very Positive' user rating.
While Steam statistics offer only part of the picture, Oblivion Remastered's success extends beyond these numbers. As a Microsoft-owned title (through Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media), the game launched directly into Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate subscribers, likely attracting a substantial player base through the subscription service alone.
With additional releases on PlayStation 5 and standard Xbox Series X/S consoles, Oblivion Remastered's true launch-day concurrent player count undoubtedly exceeds 180,000, though neither Microsoft nor Sony disclose platform-specific player numbers.
The remaster appears to be a major success already, though Bethesda has yet to share official sales figures. Player engagement is expected to grow further as the game enters its first weekend post-launch.

Developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered delivers extensive visual and gameplay enhancements. Beyond the expected 4K/60fps performance, meaningful upgrades span leveling systems, character customization, combat animations, and UI design. The remake also introduces expanded dialogue, refined third-person gameplay, and advanced lip-sync technology. These improvements have resonated with players, some arguing the project qualifies as a full remake—though Bethesda has clarified their remaster approach.
