Michael Sarnoski to Helm Live-Action Death Stranding Adaptation

Director Michael Sarnoski, known for A Quiet Place: Day One, has been tapped to write and direct the live-action film adaptation of Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, according to Deadline.

From Silent Worlds to Stranded Realities

The project will be a collaboration between A24, Kojima Productions, and Square Peg. Sarnoski brings his directorial experience from both the A Quiet Place spin-off and 2021's critically acclaimed Pig starring Nicolas Cage. He's also developing The Death of Robin Hood for A24.

Details about the adaptation remain scarce. The 2019 game immersed players in a post-apocalyptic America struggling to reconnect amid supernatural threats and extinction-level events - narrative elements ripe for cinematic translation, especially given Kojima's renowned cinematic approach to game design.

Star Power and Future Projects

The original game featured an impressive ensemble cast including Norman Reedus as protagonist Sam Bridges, alongside Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, and Guillermo del Toro. Whether these actors will reprise their roles remains unknown.

The announcement comes as Kojima Productions prepares to launch Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on PlayStation 5 in 2025, featuring new cast members like Luca Marinelli and Elle Fanning. While its Metal Gear Solid film adaptation faces delays, Death Stranding's inherently cinematic nature makes it particularly suited for live-action adaptation.
