Hype for a Bloodborne Remaster Fuelled by Instagram Posts

A Cult Classic Begging for a Modern Revival

Bloodborne, a critically acclaimed RPG released in 2015, has long been cherished by fans who yearn to explore the gothic city of Yharnam on modern consoles. While no official announcement has been made, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram pages featuring the game have reignited hopes for its revival.

On August 24, FromSoftware shared three images with the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One image showcased Djura, a veteran hunter encountered in Old Yharnam, while the others captured the player Hunter navigating the heart of Yharnam and the haunting graveyards of Charnel Lane.

Though these posts could simply be a nostalgic nod from FromSoftware, Bloodborne's devoted community on platforms like Twitter (X) has been meticulously analyzing every detail, hoping for clues that might confirm a long-awaited remaster. The excitement was further amplified by a similar post from PlayStation Italia on August 17.

Translated, PlayStation Italia's post reads: "Swipe to see some of Bloodborne's most iconic locations! A journey through gothic atmospheres and dark mysteries. Which is your favorite?" The comments under the Italian post were filled with fans expressing their desire to return to Yharnam, reminiscing about their favorite spots, and humorously suggesting that the most iconic Bloodborne location would be on PC or modern consoles.

Almost a Decade Later, the Hunt for Bloodborne on Modern Consoles Continues

Originally released in 2015 exclusively for the PS4, Bloodborne has cultivated a dedicated fanbase and is often hailed as one of the greatest video games ever made. Despite its acclaim, the game has yet to receive a sequel or a remaster.

Fans often cite the 2020 remake of Demon's Souls, which was first released in 2009, as a hopeful precedent for a Bloodborne revival. However, the lengthy wait for Demon's Souls' remake has left fans wary of a similar delay for Bloodborne. As the game approaches its tenth anniversary, the anticipation for a remastered version continues to grow.

In a February interview with Eurogamer, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki added to the speculation. While not confirming any plans, Miyazaki acknowledged the potential benefits of remastering the game for modern hardware.

"I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value," Miyazaki stated. "However, I wouldn’t say that’s the be-all and end-all. I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important."

Despite Miyazaki's hopeful comments, it's crucial to note that the final decision does not rest with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring, whose publishing rights are fully owned by FromSoftware, Bloodborne's rights are held by Sony.

"Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically," Miyazaki mentioned in an interview with IGN. "We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we’re not at liberty to speak to it."
