Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Indefinitely Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues
Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has issued an apology to Path of Exile 1 players for the indefinite delay of the 3.26 update. The update, initially slated for late October 2024, then mid-February 2025, has been postponed due to the unexpected challenges encountered with Path of Exile 2's launch.
GGG had previously committed to supporting Path of Exile 1 alongside the release of its sequel. However, the Path of Exile 1 team was reassigned to assist with Path of Exile 2's endgame development before its December 2024 launch. While GGG initially believed the team could return to Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update in time for its February target, the significant issues—crashes and balance problems—affecting Path of Exile 2 necessitated their continued involvement.
In a video message, Game Director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation: "We were fooling ourselves," he admitted, explaining that prioritizing Path of Exile 2's stability was crucial given its launch issues and widespread player impact.
The delay means Path of Exile 1 remains on its last league release, Settlers of Kalguur, from July 2024. Rogers stated that the Path of Exile 1 team will continue supporting Path of Exile 2 until at least version 0.2.0 is released, and likely for a couple of weeks afterward. He expressed regret for the situation and admitted to overconfidence in managing two game releases concurrently. While a concrete date for the 3.26 update remains unavailable, Rogers confirmed that GGG has a plan for its eventual release.
Path of Exile 2's early access launch on December 6th, 2024, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, was ultimately a massive success, achieving remarkable player numbers and ranking as one of Steam's most played games ever.
