Skyblivion, the fan-made recreation of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion built within The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's engine, is progressing toward a 2025 release.
In a recent developer update stream, the mod team reinforced their launch timeline and highlighted completed work. Developed entirely by volunteer contributors, Skyblivion represents a large‑scale AAA‑level modding project that has required years of dedication from its creators.
Even so, the team has consistently aimed for 2025, and the latest stream reconfirmed a launch by that year at the latest. "With your continued support, we hope to complete the final steps in making this dream a reality—perhaps even sooner than we estimated."

Calling it a simple one‑to‑one remake would not do justice to the project’s scope. The Skyblivion developers are also enhancing multiple aspects of the original Elder Scrolls game. These improvements range from making unique items truly one‑of‑a‑kind to strengthening boss encounters—such as Mannimarco—so they better reflect their legendary status. During the stream, the team previewed the notorious "A Brush with Death" quest, and the painted world segment looked stunning.
All of this is compelling on its own, but the situation is further complicated by long‑standing rumors of an official Oblivion remake.
Earlier this year, alleged details about an Oblivion remake emerged, including potential combat updates and other changes. Microsoft declined IGN's request for comment. Furthermore, a remaster of Oblivion was listed in documents accidentally published during the Activision Blizzard–FTC trial in 2023. While some titles from those documents, such as an Indiana Jones game, have since launched, others like the Oblivion remaster and a Fallout 3 remaster remain unconfirmed.
If Microsoft and Bethesda plan to re‑release Oblivion officially, a comprehensive fan mod like Skyblivion could face scrutiny. Bethesda games have long thrived with strong modding communities, from older titles to Starfield. Hopefully, this ambitious project avoids last‑minute complications like those encountered by Fallout London.
