Warner Bros. Games Shutting Down MultiVersus

Multiversus Season 5 Will Be Its Last Season

On January 31, 2025, the official MultiVersus Twitter (X) account announced the bittersweet news that the game will shut down permanently on May 30, 2025, following the conclusion of its fifth and final season. In a detailed blog post on the MultiVersus official website, Player First Games and Warner Bros. confirmed that "our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game."

MultiVersus Season 5 kicks off on February 4, 2025, and will run until May 30, 2025. This season will introduce two new playable characters: DC's Aquaman and Looney Tunes' Lola Bunny. The blog post assures players that "All new Season 5 content, including Aquaman and Lola Bunny, will be earnable through gameplay." Once Season 5 wraps up, MultiVersus will no longer be available for download on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store.

There haven't been any official statements from MultiVersus regarding the reasons behind the shutdown.

Moving Forward With MultiVersus’ Offline Mode

Once Season 5 concludes, MultiVersus will transition to an offline mode, playable "via the local gameplay mode, either solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends." To enjoy this offline experience, players must download the latest version of MultiVersus during Season 5, starting February 4 at 9 AM PST until May 30 at 9 AM PDT.

Upon logging in, the game will automatically generate a local save file linked to the players' PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account. This allows players to continue playing MultiVersus offline with all the content they've earned and purchased.

As of January 31, 2025, MultiVersus has halted real money transactions. This means that Gleamium, the game's premium currency, can no longer be bought in the online store. However, players with remaining Gleamium can still use it to unlock in-game content until the end of Season 5.

MultiVersus First Opened Public Beta In 2022

MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season

MultiVersus first opened its public beta in July 2022, offering a free-to-play fighting game experience that drew comparisons to Super Smash Bros. but set itself apart with a team-based 2v2 format. From July 2022 to June 2023, the open beta saw numerous updates and introduced content over 2 seasons. The game relaunched in May 2024 with enhancements like new characters, rollback netcode, a new PvE mode, new currencies, and more.

Despite these updates, the relaunch did not fully satisfy fans, who reported ongoing technical issues, frequent disconnections, and dissatisfaction with MultiVersus' microtransactions. By July 2024, there was a reported 70% drop in player numbers on PS4 and PS5.

MultiVersus will officially shut down on May 30 at 9 AM PDT, featuring a roster of 35 playable characters from various franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed their gratitude, stating, "We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."

You can download MultiVersus on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025.
