Capturing Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds
The capture mechanics in Monster Hunter Wilds follow a straightforward approach. First weaken your target sufficiently, then restrain it with a trap before administering tranquilizers. While the concept is simple, perfecting the timing requires practice.
Your Palico companion provides valuable cues when a monster reaches critical health. Additional indicators include:
- A skull icon appearing on the minimap
- Visible fatigue signs like limping or excessive drooling
When these signs appear, deploy either a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap in the monster's path. Once trapped, you have a brief window to administer tranquilizers:
- Tranq Bombs (typically require 1-2 uses)
- Tranq Ammo for ranged weapons
- Tranq Blades for melee fighters
Successful captures automatically conclude the hunt and return you to base camp with your prize.
How to Obtain Traps and Tranquilizer Items
While Palicos sometimes deploy traps, seasoned hunters always carry their own equipment. The two primary trap types require different components:
| Trap Type | Required Materials |
|---|---|
| Pitfall Trap | Trap Tool + Net (Spiderwebs/Ivy) |
| Shock Trap | Trap Tool + Thunderbug Capacitor |
Tranquilizer items require:
- Sleep Herb + Parashroom = Tranq Bomb
- Tranq Bomb + Throwing Knife = Tranq Blade
- Tranq Bomb + Normal Ammo = Tranq Ammo
