Lollipop Chainsaw Returns with Sequel and Anime After Decade-Long Hiatus

After more than 10 years, the cult classic Lollipop Chainsaw is making a comeback with both a sequel and an anime adaptation. Dragami Games, the successor to original developer Kadokawa Games, is helming the new projects following their recent remaster, Lollipop Chainsaw RePop.

A Bloody Good Comeback

The original 2012 title won fans over with its unique blend of cheerleader protagonist Juliet Starling and zombie-slashing gameplay. The project boasted an all-star creative team including No More Heroes' Suda51 and future DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, who contributed to the script before his Marvel and DC fame.

Despite mixed reactions to last year's RePop remaster - which notably lacked the original licensed soundtrack - the franchise has sold over 1.5 million units lifetime, with the 2012 version accounting for most sales.

Staying True to Its Roots

The sequel announcement emphasizes maintaining the original's spirit, with several key staff members returning. The developers specifically noted they won't compromise the game's signature edgy humor or aesthetic due to modern sensitivities: "The development process will prioritize staying true to the distinctive tone of the original work, without imposing excessive creative restrictions."

While release details remain under wraps, the team promises to incorporate fan feedback while expanding the bloody, over-the-top universe that made the original memorable.

The anime adaptation adds another dimension to the franchise's revival, though no production studio or release window has been announced.
