DOOM: The Dark Ages Will Introduce Its Own Marauder

Agadon the Hunter, a brand-new enemy replacing the Marauder, isn't just a souped-up version of his predecessor; he's a completely unique challenge. He borrows traits from several bosses, seamlessly blending dodging, evasive maneuvers, and even projectile deflection—a skill that will test the Doom Slayer's mettle. Expect a diverse array of combo attacks, demanding mastery of the sawtooth shield, a mechanic reminiscent of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice—a game that heavily influenced the developers. The Agadon encounter serves as the ultimate crucible, a final exam testing every skill honed throughout the game.

The decision to retain a challenging boss like the Marauder stems from the developers' belief in players' readiness for a significant hurdle. However, they acknowledge the previous iteration's shortcomings weren't in the difficulty itself, but in its presentation and lack of adequate explanation.

The Marauder's defeat relied on mechanics previously unused in the campaign, a jarring shift in gameplay pace that left some players feeling frustrated. This time, a smoother introduction of mechanics and improved player preparation aims to alleviate this issue.

DOOM: The Dark Ages launches May 15, 2025, for current-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) and PC (Steam).
