The Witcher 4: Ciri Takes the Reins, Geralt Rides Off Into the Sunset
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has announced The Witcher 4, promising the most immersive and ambitious open-world experience yet in the acclaimed franchise. Executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga described it as a significant leap forward, building on the lessons learned from Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Ciri's Inevitable Destiny
The game's cinematic trailer showcased Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, stepping into her father's role as a Witcher. Story director Tomasz Marchewka confirmed this was the plan from the outset, highlighting Ciri's complex character and rich storytelling potential.
While fans loved Ciri's overpowered abilities in The Witcher 3, Mitręga hints at a shift in her capabilities for this new installment, stating "something totally happened in-between." Game director Sebastian Kalemba assures players that this will be fully explained within the game's narrative. Despite the change, Mitręga emphasizes that Ciri retains Geralt's influence, showcasing her agility and speed while still bearing the mark of her upbringing.
Geralt's Well-Deserved Retirement
With Ciri taking the lead, Geralt's days of monster hunting appear to be over. According to author Andrzej Sapkowski, Geralt was already 61 in The Witcher 3. Considering the likely time jump in The Witcher 4, Geralt would be well into his seventies, if not nearing eighty. While Witcher lifespan can reach 100, this revelation surprised many fans who had previously estimated Geralt's age to be much higher.
The Witcher 4 promises a new chapter, a new protagonist, and a new level of immersion for fans of the series.
