Stardew Valley creator Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone hinted at the possibility of developing Stardew Valley 2 in the future.
However, during his interview with TigerBelly, Barone clarified that expanding the original game remains far simpler than building an entirely new sequel from scratch. "All the core systems are already in place," he explained. "Right now, updates allow me to experiment with fun, quirky additions like green rain instead of rebuilding fundamentals."
"Honestly, I might create Stardew Valley 2 someday," Barone told Nintendo Life, though emphasized his current focus remains elsewhere.
The developer also revealed his motivation behind crafting Haunted Chocolatier: "I refuse to be pigeonholed as just the Stardew Valley guy." Fans shouldn't anticipate an imminent release though - Barone insists the project must significantly surpass his debut title, stating "substantial work remains."
Our 2016 Stardew Valley review scored it 8.8/10 ("Great"), but our 2024 reappraisal elevated it to a perfect 10/10 masterpiece. We noted: "This farming RPG transcends its genre - eight years post-launch, its irresistible charm and consistent updates cement its status as one of gaming's all-time greats."
