Battle of Sudoku: A Multiplayer Sudoku Showdown
Love Sudoku? Want to challenge friends or team up against others? Battle of Sudoku is a multiplayer version of the classic puzzle game. The goal remains the same: fill a 9x9 grid with digits so each column, row, and 3x3 subgrid contains all digits from 1 to 9.
Game Setup and Difficulty:
Before starting, select a difficulty level (1-6) in the game options; 1 is easiest, 6 is hardest. This determines the number of pre-filled digits, which all players must solve simultaneously. Every player receives the identical puzzle.
Game Modes:
Two modes are available, configurable in the game options:
- "Show correct numbers of your opponent": Each correctly placed number is visible to all players, earning points for the first player to place it correctly. Duplicate numbers are disallowed.
- "Hide correct numbers of your opponent": Players cannot see each other's correct numbers, allowing for multiple players to earn points with the same number.
Time-Outs and Scoring:
Incorrect numbers result in a time-out (default 30 seconds, configurable). Correct numbers earn points, with higher difficulty levels awarding more points per correct number. Incorrect numbers deduct half the points earned for a correct placement.
Winning the Game:
The game ends when the puzzle is solved. In the "Show correct numbers" mode, the player with the most points wins. In the "Hide correct numbers" mode, the game ends when one player solves the puzzle, although this doesn't grant extra points; other players can still win based on fewer mistakes.
Team Play vs. Individual Play:
Team play allows two teams to compete. Players select their team (1 or 2) upon joining. A minimum of two players per team is required. Points are added to the team's total score, and notes/filled colors are shared among teammates, enabling collaborative strategies.
Solving Tools:
A toolbar provides tools to aid puzzle solving:
- Pen Tool: Add notes (mini-numbers) to squares. Selecting a number already present in a square removes it.
- Fill Mode: Change the background color of squares (including solved ones).
