This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. While the process is relatively simple, finding the starting point can be challenging. This guide will help you navigate this quest.
The Yellow Orb is located in Merchantburg, a town initially represented as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave there. You must establish and develop this village to acquire the orb.
Finding Merchantburg (???)
After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg's location becomes accessible. With quest markers enabled, it's found in the northeast corner of the world map. Sail west from the coast to reach the easternmost edge of the eastern continent.
Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg
While orb acquisition order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early (immediately after getting the ship) is recommended. The town requires significant growth time before yielding the Yellow Orb. Establishing it early allows you to collect other orbs concurrently.
Obtaining the Yellow Orb
Establishing Merchantburg:
- Hire a new Merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route.
- In Merchantburg, enter the single building. An old man will request a merchant to found the town. Offer your newly hired merchant. The town's name will then be established.
Returning to Merchantburg:
Merchantburg progresses through five growth stages. You'll receive notifications prompting return visits. The first four visits show increasing town size, culminating in a large club's construction. On the fourth visit, note the merchant's growing unpopularity.
Acquiring the Yellow Orb:
On the fifth visit (at night), the merchant will be absent. The town will have revolted, imprisoning him in the house south of his former residence.
Speak to the imprisoned merchant; he'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to his house; a quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground to find the Yellow Orb.
The Yellow Orb is usually the penultimate orb acquired. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
