Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 25th Anniversary: Something's Coming!
Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk has confirmed that Activision is working on something to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the iconic Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise. While details remain scarce, the announcement fuels speculation of a new game or a revival of previously cancelled projects.
Activision and Hawk Team Up for Anniversary Celebration
During a recent appearance on Mythical Kitchen, Tony Hawk revealed the exciting news, stating that discussions with Activision are underway and that a project is in development. He teased that it will be something fans will appreciate, though he remained tight-lipped on specifics.
The original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater launched on September 29th, 1999. The franchise's success spawned numerous sequels and, in 2020, a remastered version of THPS 1+2 was released. While plans for remastered versions of THPS 3 and 4 existed, they were ultimately scrapped following the closure of Vicarious Visions.
Hawk previously acknowledged the cancellation, citing the studio's closure and Activision's restructuring as contributing factors. This latest announcement, however, suggests a renewed commitment to celebrating the franchise's legacy.
Speculation Mounts: New Game or Remastered Return?
The anniversary announcement, coupled with recent social media activity (including a THPS 1+2 Collector's Edition giveaway), has ignited speculation about a potential new game. Rumors suggest a possible reveal during a Sony State of Play event this month. Whether this will be a new entry in the series or a continuation of the abandoned remaster project remains to be seen. Hawk has yet to offer further clarification.
