Tantalus Media, the studio behind acclaimed Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, is revealed as the developer of the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the Nintendo 3DS, was developed by Next Level Games. This new HD version, announced last September and slated for release on June 27th, sees Luigi once again confronting King Boo across the haunted mansions of Evershade Valley.

The Australian studio's involvement was recently confirmed by VGC, appearing in the game's credits. Tantalus Media's portfolio also includes the Nintendo Switch port of Sonic Mania, the PC port of House of the Dead, and contributions to the Age of Empires 1-3: Definitive Editions.

Early reviews for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD are positive, praising it as another high-quality Nintendo remaster, similar to Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. However, the game has experienced pre-order issues mirroring those of Paper Mario, with Walmart canceling some orders.

Nintendo's practice of withholding developer information until close to release is evident here, echoing the late reveal of ArtePiazza as the developer of the Super Mario RPG remake. Similarly, the developer of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Fury remains undisclosed, suggesting a continuation of this trend.
