Golden Globe Win for Reznor and Ross Boosts Anticipation for Intergalactic Soundtrack

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, the acclaimed composers behind the upcoming Naughty Dog game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, have added another feather to their cap: a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score. This prestigious accolade was earned for their work on Luca Guadagnino's film Challengers.

The recent Intergalactic trailer showcased a preview of Reznor and Ross's composition, alongside licensed music featured in the game. Known for their enduring collaboration with Nine Inch Nails and critically acclaimed scores for films directed by David Fincher and Pete Docter, the duo previously won an Academy Award for The Social Network and Soul, along with numerous Grammys, an Emmy, and a BAFTA. Reznor's previous experience in video game soundtracks includes Quake (1996) and the main title track for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Accepting the Golden Globe from Elton John and Brandi Carlile, Ross described the Challengers score as "never…a safe choice, but it always felt like the right one." The contemporary, club-influenced electronic score perfectly complements the film's themes of athleticism and sensuality. Given their current creative peak, Intergalactic's soundtrack is poised to be a landmark achievement in video game music.

Reznor and Ross's Versatility Shines

While their Nine Inch Nails roots might seem unexpected for game and film scoring, Reznor and Ross have consistently demonstrated remarkable musical adaptability. Their work ranges from the haunting soundscapes of The Social Network to the ethereal beauty of Soul, and now, the potentially ominous soundscape for Naughty Dog's space-faring horror title. Online hints suggesting a horror element in Intergalactic make their involvement even more fitting.

The Golden Globe win further amplifies the anticipation surrounding Intergalactic, a project that may represent a significant stylistic shift for Naughty Dog. Given Reznor and Ross's impeccable track record, the game's soundtrack promises to be a captivating auditory experience, regardless of the final game content.
