Get Ready to Race! Two F-Zero GBA Classics Join Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
Nintendo has just announced the addition of two classic Game Boy Advance racing games to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack library! Prepare for high-speed thrills with F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend, launching October 11, 2024.
F-Zero: GP Legend and the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax will be available to Expansion Pack subscribers starting October 11th.
The F-Zero series, a futuristic racing franchise, debuted in Japan over 30 years ago (1990) and has been critically acclaimed for pushing the boundaries of console technology. Its influence is undeniable, inspiring other racing games like SEGA's Daytona USA. Known for its breakneck speed, F-Zero is a landmark title in retro gaming history.
Like Mario Kart, F-Zero features intense races filled with track obstacles and rival racers piloting their powerful "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, also famously appears in Super Smash Bros.
F-Zero: GP Legend initially released in Japan in 2003, followed by a worldwide launch in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, has remained a region-exclusive title until now—making it the last F-Zero game for nearly two decades before the release of F-Zero 99 on the Switch last year. In a past interview, F-Zero designer Takaya Imamura cited Mario Kart's popularity as a factor in the series' long hiatus.
This October 2024 update to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack brings both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend to subscribers, offering Grand Prix, story modes, and various time trials. Get ready to compete for the top spot!
