Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Amidst LA Wildfires
Square Enix has temporarily halted automatic housing demolition timers in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers.
The decision comes just one day after the company resumed these timers following a previous suspension. The 45-day demolition timers, designed to free up housing plots from inactive players and Free Companies, are routinely paused during significant real-world events to prevent players from losing their homes due to circumstances beyond their control. Previous pauses have been implemented in response to events like Hurricane Helene.
This latest suspension, effective January 9th, 11:20 PM Eastern, offers a reprieve for players potentially impacted by the wildfires. No timeframe has been given for the resumption of automatic demolitions, with Square Enix stating they will monitor the situation closely. Homeowners can still reset their timers to the full 45 days by logging into their estates.
The wildfires' impact extends beyond the game, with other events, including a Critical Role campaign and an NFL playoff game, also affected. This unexpected pause adds to a busy start to 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, who also recently benefited from a free login campaign. The duration of this housing demolition moratorium remains undetermined.
