An Elden Ring player, chickensandwich420, has embarked on a unique challenge: defeating the notoriously difficult Messmer the Impaler boss daily until the release of the upcoming spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign. This self-imposed marathon began on December 16, 2024, and involves using a different weapon each day, achieving a flawless victory (no hits taken) on NG+7.
Initially planning a broader challenge encompassing various FromSoftware bosses, chickensandwich420 opted for this focused approach due to university commitments. Messmer, the second antagonist in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, is known for its extreme difficulty, often requiring numerous attempts even for highly skilled players.
The challenge, however, has a deadline. If Nightreign doesn't launch by June 2025, chickensandwich420 will shift his focus to other games. This self-imposed limit sets a timeframe of approximately 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's successfully completed 23 days.
Elden Ring: Nightreign, a three-player co-op spin-off, was announced at The Game Awards 2024 with a planned 2025 release. However, FromSoftware's history of development timelines introduces uncertainty. Whether chickensandwich420 completes his monumental task before Nightreign's release remains to be seen.
