Destiny 1's Tower Receives Unexpected Festive Makeover
Seven years after its initial release, Destiny 1's Tower social space has received a mysterious update featuring festive lighting and decorations. This unexpected addition has baffled players and sparked speculation about its origins.
Destiny 1, while still playable, largely faded into the background after the launch of Destiny 2 in 2017. While Bungie has regularly added legacy content from Destiny 1 to its sequel, this spontaneous update to the Tower is entirely unannounced.
The surprise was discovered on January 5th, with players reporting Ghost-shaped lights adorning the Tower, reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning. However, unlike previous events, there's no snow and the banners are different, and no new quests or in-game messages accompany the decorations.
A Ghost of Events Past?
The lack of official communication from Bungie has fueled fan theories. Reddit users pointed to a canceled event, "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. Unused assets from this scrapped event closely resemble the current Tower decorations, suggesting a possible connection. It's speculated that the decorations were scheduled for a future date, perhaps unintentionally, and were overlooked until now.
As of this writing, Bungie hasn't commented on the unexpected update. The year 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events migrating to Destiny 2. This impromptu event, therefore, offers a unique, albeit temporary, experience for dedicated Destiny 1 players before Bungie likely removes it. Enjoy the unexpected holiday cheer while it lasts!
