In the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid, securing your shelter is paramount. While finding a safe haven is relatively easy, keeping the undead hordes at bay requires more effort. This guide focuses on a fundamental defensive measure: barricading windows.
Barricading Windows: A Step-by-Step Guide
To effectively board up your windows, gather these essential supplies: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've acquired these items, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window can support up to four planks for increased protection.
Resource Locations:
- Nails & Hammers: Typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and similar locations.
- Planks: Common in construction sites, or salvaged from wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.) by breaking them down. Administrators can use the "/additem" command to spawn items.
Barricaded windows significantly deter zombies. The more planks installed, the longer it takes for the undead to breach your defenses. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
Important Note: Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as barricades. Characters and zombies will pass through them.
While wooden planks offer basic protection, more advanced barricades using metal bars or sheets are possible, but require sufficient Metalworking skill.
