AFK Journey Tier List
It's important to note that many AFK Journey characters are viable for most content. While some outperform others in high-level endgame, even average heroes can be effective.
This tier list prioritizes versatility, overall performance in standard PvE, Dream Realm, and PvP. Details for each tier follow:

S-Tier Characters
Lily May's arrival marked AFK Journey's first must-have character since Vala. She significantly boosts Wilder teams, delivering substantial damage and utility as a rogue. Effective against Eironn teams in PvP, she excels in AFK stages and potentially replaces Korin or Marilee in Dream Realm boss teams.
Thoran remains the top F2P tank, especially for those still developing Phraesto. Reinier is the leading support for Hypogean and Celestials, crucial for both PvE and PvP (Dream Realm and Arena).
Koko and Smokey & Meerky are essential support units across game modes. Odie shines in Dream Realm and all PvE. Eironn, with Damien and Arden, forms a dominant F2P Arena team.
Tasi (added November 2024) is a versatile Wilder character excelling in most modes. Her crowd control is exceptional, potentially dominating all but Dream Realm (though this might change with Plague Creeper's addition).
Harak (Hypogean/Celestial) is a powerful Warrior whose strength increases with each enemy kill. His Life Drain makes him formidable.
A-Tier Characters
Lyca and Vala effectively utilize Haste, a crucial stat boosting attack frequency and speed. Lyca provides party-wide Haste, while Vala increases her own with each marked enemy kill. Lyca's PvP performance can be inconsistent.
Antandra is a solid tank alternative to Thoran, offering taunts, shields, and crowd control.
Viperian complements a Graveborn core with energy drain and AoE attacks. He's less effective in Dream Realm but excels elsewhere.
Alsa (added May 2024) is a strong DPS mage, fitting well into meta PvP compositions alongside Eironn (Mythic+). She's easier to build than Carolina and serves a similar role.
Phraesto (added June 2024) is a durable tank but lacks damage output. Prioritize Reinier over him.
Ludovic (added August 2024) is a strong Graveborn healer, effective in various team compositions and particularly powerful with Talene in PvP.
Cecia, once a top DPS, is now A-tier. While still a capable Marksman, Lily May's release and Dream Realm meta shifts have reduced her late-game value.
Sonja (added December 2024) significantly upgrades the Lightborne faction, offering respectable damage and utility across game modes.
B-Tier Characters
B-Tier characters fill roles but are generally less valuable than A or S-tier options. Don't invest heavily; replace them with better units.
Valen and Brutus are good early-game DPS choices. Granny Dahnie is a decent alternative tank to Thoran and Antandra.
Arden and Damien are PvP meta mainstays but less effective in PvE.
Florabelle (added April 2024) is a secondary DPS supporting Cecia (Mythic+), but not essential.
Soren (added May 2024) is decent in PvP but not optimal for Dream Realm or other PvE content.
Korin's Dream Realm effectiveness has decreased, moving him to B-tier. Odie is now the preferred DPS for this mode.
C-Tier Characters
C-Tier characters are primarily useful in the early game, quickly becoming outclassed. Focus on summoning better units.
Parisa, though initially effective, is easily replaced. She has a strong AoE attack useful for crowd control and some PvP matchups.
