According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular Harry Potter adventure game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion was set to release this year, coinciding with a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel the DLC came this week, reportedly due to concerns that the content volume did not justify the intended price point. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring within Warner Bros.' gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company canceled its anticipated Wonder Woman game, shut down the developing studio Monolith Productions, as well as WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. laid off employees at Rocksteady Studios as recently as last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise within its portfolio. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is among its top priorities, as it shifts focus towards investing in fewer, but larger franchises. The original game has achieved significant success, selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
