World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 introduces thrilling new races: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. and Skyrocket races. These replace traditional Skyriding races in the new Undermine zone.
Undermine, a sprawling Goblin metropolis, prohibits flying. Instead, players navigate using the customizable D.R.I.V.E. vehicle, offering a unique high-speed ground-based racing experience surpassing even Skyriding's speed. Breakneck races fully utilize the D.R.I.V.E. system's potential.
Complementing the D.R.I.V.E. races are the innovative Skyrocket races, which leverage Goblin jetpacks for aerial maneuvering. This new flight style blends aspects of traditional flying and Skyriding; players maintain momentum but cannot stop mid-air. Speed increases with each collected ring, but handling becomes less responsive, adding a layer of strategic challenge. Footage from the Public Test Realm (PTR) by WoW content creator MrGM showcases this dynamic gameplay.
No Skyriding, But Plenty of Racing:
Undermine's no-fly policy eliminates Skyriding races. However, both Breakneck and Skyrocket races offer Bronze, Silver, and Gold achievement rewards for completing each course. Reverse versions of all races are also included, though advanced or challenge courses are absent.
Race List:
Skyrocket Races | Breakneck Races |
---|---|
Skyrocketing Sprint | Breakneck Bolt |
The Heaps Leap | Junkyard Jaunt |
Scrapshop Shot | Casino Cruise |
Rags to Riches Run | Sandy Scuttle |
Player reception to the Skyrocket races is currently mixed. Some praise the novelty, while others express concerns about the flight's stiffness and lack of responsiveness compared to Skyriding. As Patch 11.1 is still under development (with a likely February release), further refinements are expected.
