Toxic Avenger 'Monster Dong' Cut Now Heading to Theaters

Author : Claire Dec 21,2025

Fans have been waiting for years for Macon Blair's reboot of The Toxic Avenger to reach theaters—and their patience is about to be rewarded in just a couple of weeks. However, it appears some early leaks have already surfaced online, and horror news site Bloody Disgusting has confirmed them, offering a genuine preview of how extreme the unrated theatrical cut will be.

This week, a Reddit user posted a still from the film in a leaks forum, captioning it, "A friend at Cineverse showed a few of us some clips from the new Toxic Avenger reboot. Managed to snap this epic picture." The image features Toxie, portrayed by Peter Dinklage, in a precarious situation where his only way out involves exposing his most private anatomy.

According to Bloody Disgusting's report on the leak, "Toxie finds himself cornered in a scenario where his sole means of escape is to weaponize his radioactive urine—essentially, pissing his way out of trouble. In the Unrated version, Toxie fully unveils his 'Monster Dong.' Since the moment began spreading across Reddit and other platforms, we decided to just come out and confirm it."

The outlet, which is owned by distribution and production company Cineverse, also shared a statement from Cineverse’s VP of network strategy, Tom Owens, who co-founded Bloody Disgusting in 2001.

"Terrifier 2 and Terrifier 3 made some theaters nervous as well, but that turned out well for everyone. We gave Damien Leone complete creative freedom on those films, and we feel the same about Macon Blair and The Toxic Avenger," Owens stated. "If we weren't going to release the full Unrated cut, there was no point in releasing the movie at all. Some studios shy away from pushing boundaries. We embrace it. By granting filmmakers true creative freedom, we ensure their vision reaches audiences in its purest, most uncompromised form."

This leak follows the film's own social media announcement a few months ago that an unrated cut would be shown in theaters. That post featured an image of Elijah Wood's villain, Fritz Harbinger, stamped with an "unrated" label promising "ultra-violent/toxic content, piss play, mutant nudity, and gnarly theater fun." Now fans have a clearer idea of what that "piss play" entails.

The Toxic Avenger premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2023 but then spent nearly two years in limbo despite a wildly positive festival response, reportedly due to being considered "unreleasable" even in an R-rated version. Cineverse eventually acquired the film, and audiences will finally get to see it later this month—though the unprecedented nature of the never-before-screened unrated cut is causing some hesitation among theater owners.

The Toxic Avenger opens in theaters nationwide on August 29, 2025.
