Chrono Trigger-Inspired RPG "Threads of Time" Arrives on Xbox Series X/S and PC
PS5 and Switch Releases Pending
Unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2024's Xbox showcase, Threads of Time is currently under development for Xbox Series X/S and PC (Steam). While a release date remains unannounced, PS5 and Nintendo Switch versions haven't been confirmed.
Already generating buzz, Threads of Time is poised to compete with Sea of Stars as a spiritual successor to Square Enix's iconic Chrono series. This retro-style RPG from Riyo Games is their debut title, born from a childhood dream:
"Riyo Games’ vision is to create retro-inspired RPGs that evoke cherished childhood memories," the studio stated. "It began with a promise between two children, playing RPGs by their CRT TV, to one day craft fantastical adventures together."
Featuring vibrant 2.5D pixel art, Threads of Time follows a diverse cast of characters across various eras, from dinosaurs to robots. Their journey unravels a sinister plot threatening the very fabric of time. The pixel art is complemented by stunning anime cutscenes that deepen the narrative.
The party includes: Rye, a swordsman from 1000 AD; Bo, a veterinarian from 12,000,000 BC; Rin, a kitsune from 2400 AD; and more.
