The creator of Resident Evil recently expressed strong support for a Killer7 sequel during a presentation, sparking excitement among fans of the cult classic. This article delves into the discussion between the two game creators.
Mikami and Suda Hint at a Killer7 Sequel and Remaster
Killer7: A Sequel or a Remaster?
During a recent Grasshopper Direct, Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil) and Goichi "Suda51" Suda discussed the possibility of both a Killer7 sequel and a complete edition of the game.
The focus was primarily on the upcoming Shadows of the Damned remaster, but the conversation shifted to future projects. Mikami openly stated his desire for a Killer7 sequel, calling the original one of his personal favorites.
Suda51 mirrored Mikami's enthusiasm, suggesting a sequel was a possibility, even playfully tossing around title ideas like "Killer11" or "Killer7: Beyond."
Killer7, a 2005 action-adventure title released on GameCube and PlayStation 2, is known for its unique blend of horror, mystery, and Suda51's signature over-the-top style. The game follows Harman Smith, a man capable of manifesting seven distinct personalities, each with unique abilities. Despite its cult following, a sequel has remained elusive. Even after a 2018 PC remaster, Suda51 expressed interest in revisiting the original vision.
Suda51 proposed a "Complete Edition" of Killer7, an idea Mikami jokingly dismissed. However, the discussion revealed that the original game's concept included extensive dialogue for the character Coyote, potentially restorable in a complete edition.
The possibility of a sequel or a complete edition has generated significant fan excitement. While no firm commitments have been made, the creators' enthusiasm has ignited anticipation for the future of Killer7.
Mikami suggested a complete edition would be well-received, to which Suda51 responded that deciding between "Killer7: Beyond" and the complete edition would be the next step.
