Stellar Blade, initially a PlayStation exclusive, is officially coming to PC in 2025! This article explores the release date and potential PSN account requirements.
Stellar Blade's PC Arrival in 2025: A Potential PSN Hurdle?
Following hints from SHIFT UP's CFO earlier this year, the developer has confirmed a 2025 PC release. The decision is driven by the growing PC gaming market and the success of titles like Black Myth: Wukong. While a specific date remains unannounced, SHIFT UP plans continued marketing, including a NieR: Automata collaboration DLC and a Photo Mode, both launching November 20th, to maintain the game's popularity before the PC launch.
A Growing Trend, But a Concerning Practice
Stellar Blade joins other PlayStation exclusives making the jump to PC. However, this transition has raised concerns. As a Sony-published title and with SHIFT UP's second-party status with Sony, a PSN account link for Steam might be required. This would exclude players in regions without PSN access.
The PSN Requirement: A Question of Justification
Sony's rationale, as expressed by CFO Hiroki Totoki, centers on ensuring "safe" live-service gameplay. However, this justification is debated, especially concerning its application to single-player titles.
Uncertainty Remains: Will PSN Be Required?
Whether Stellar Blade will necessitate a PSN account for PC remains unclear. SHIFT UP's IP ownership could potentially negate this requirement. However, a mandatory PSN link could impact PC sales, potentially hindering SHIFT UP's goal of exceeding console sales.
