Initially, you choose a cat or dog. While you could only have one pet per save file, the 1.6 update changed that, allowing multiple companions! To add more, you'll need to max out your current pet's friendship. This means daily care: fill their water bowl (except on rainy or snowy days) and pet them (look for the heart!). Check their friendship level in the "Animals" menu. A full friendship meter triggers a message from Marnie, opening the door to more pets. If you skipped the initial pet adoption, Marnie's message arrives at the start of Year 2.

For each new pet, visit Robin's shop and order a Pet Bowl (5,000g and 25 Hardwood). The bowl is essential; neglecting it can lead to a runaway pet! Marnie also sells optional decorative items like doghouses and cat trees.
