While venturing through The Zone in *Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl*, players will encounter a variety of NPCs that can lead to engaging quests, ranging from minor tasks to full-fledged side missions like "For Science!". In this mission, Skif must meet with Yaryk Mongoose, who then assigns a task to activate a second measuring device located atop a Silo. Although the quest is relatively short, completing it rewards players with a Malachite pass, which grants access to the facilities of STC Malachite.
How to Start "For Science!" Side Quest in Stalker 2
To kick off the "For Science!" side quest in *Stalker 2*, players need to rendezvous with Yaryk Mongoose at the Central Elevator location within the Chemical Plant region. As you approach the area, Mongoose will contact Skif via radio, urging him to come up to meet him.
Upon entering the Central Elevator area, veer left past the conveyor belts and ascend the rusted stairs. Mongoose awaits on the first floor; simply vault over the railing and enter the room to initiate a conversation with him. Here, Mongoose will be found near a measuring device and will reveal the need to activate another device located on top of a silo. Both devices must be activated simultaneously, so Skif will need to handle the second one. Accepting Mongoose's request will officially start the "For Science!" side mission.
Reaching the Top of the Silo During "For Science!" Side Quest
After concluding the conversation, exit the room and climb the stairs to the building's roof. Be prepared to encounter a pack of rodents along the way; dispatch them swiftly. Proceed into a room with broken windows on both sides, and climb out through any window to access the ladder on the external walkway.
From the walkway, jump onto the connecting path leading to the Silos. Make sure to equip your bolt, as you'll encounter electro anomalies en route to the second measuring device. Continue left across the silo until you reach and activate the device.
Once the device is activated, you'll be alerted to a pack of Bloodsuckers entering the compound. You have the option to either eliminate these threats or evade them to reach Yaryk Mongoose and address the dangerous situation.
Confront Yaryk Mongoose About the Bloodsucker Pack
Upon confronting Mongoose, he'll explain the unintended consequences of the experiment. Players face a choice: either take Mongoose out for endangering Skif's life or accept the reward and depart. There are no repercussions for either decision, so feel free to choose based on your preference. If you opt to eliminate Mongoose, you can loot the Malachite pass from his body.
However, it is advisable to listen to Mongoose's explanation and select the non-hostile option. This way, you'll receive the Malachite Pass along with some coupons. With the pass in hand, you'll now have access to the STC Malachite base, unless you already have entry through one of the main missions.
