Square Enix has once again confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 4 is in development, putting to rest any doubts fans might have had. In a recent social media post, accompanied by an array of images, the company showcased several aspects of the game, from characters to cinematic scenes, combat, platforming, and even a glimpse of a formidable enemy. This update comes just a day after the announcement of the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG for mobile. Despite this setback, Square Enix reassured fans that the team is diligently working on Kingdom Hearts 4.
"We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" the first of two posts read, accompanied by a collage of screenshots. These images not only tease the characters players will encounter but also offer a sneak peek at some of the game's cinematics, combat sequences, platforming elements, and a daunting large enemy.

"We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts," the second post continued. "We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This is the first substantial update on the highly-anticipated sequel in months, following a tiny, cryptic tease for Kingdom Hearts 4 back in January. Although the game was unveiled in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had remained relatively silent until this latest announcement. Series director Tetsuya Nomura has previously hinted that Kingdom Hearts 4 will mark a significant shift, aiming to bring the sprawling 22-year, 18-game saga towards its conclusion.
Regarding the now-canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix expressed its "heartfelt apologies to everyone who have been looking forward" to the game. The project was canceled due to concerns that it would be "difficult [...] to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
