Sony is gearing up for its customary February PlayStation State of Play broadcast, slated for next week. According to the reliable leaker NateTheHate, who previously pinpointed the exact date of Nintendo's Switch 2 announcement, the event is expected to take place during Valentine’s Day week, from February 10 to 14.
Speculation is rife about what Sony might unveil at this year’s State of Play. A review of Sony's first-party titles slated for 2025 offers some clues. Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei, which is set to release in 2025, could be a highlight with potential new gameplay footage and a firm release date.
Bungie’s PvP extraction shooter, Marathon, might also make an appearance, especially if playtesting is on the agenda for this year. Haven Studios' debut game, Fairgames, could be showcased as well. Naughty Dog has teased a new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Insomniac is busy with Marvel’s Wolverine. A fresh trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, slated for a 2025 release, seems likely too.
However, fans shouldn't expect to see the live service games Sony recently canceled. Last month, Sony pulled the plug on two unannounced live-service titles in development at Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games. The Bluepoint project was rumored to be a live-service God of War game, while details on Bend Studio’s project remain under wraps. On the other hand, Guerrilla Games' live service Horizon game reportedly dodged the axe, and this could be the perfect moment for its reveal.
Moving to third-party announcements, Kojima's upcoming stealth-action PlayStation exclusive, Physint, might still be too early for a showcase. However, Phantom Blade Zero, the visually striking hack-and-slash action RPG from Chinese studio S-Game, seems more likely to appear.
Microsoft, now a notable publisher on PlayStation, could also make waves. With Indiana Jones and the Great Circle set to hit PS5 soon, a release date announcement might be on the cards. Could Microsoft also use the State of Play to finally announce Halo's arrival on PlayStation?
Looking back at last year’s State of Play helps set expectations for what's to come. The event featured reveals like Death Stranding 2, Physint, Rise of the Ronin, an Until Dawn remaster, Stellar Blade, Dragon's Dogma 2, Sonic x Shadow Generations, various Silent Hill projects, Ken Levine’s Judas, Foamstars, and Helldivers 2.
