Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are bringing the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. The announcement, made by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash at CES 2025, confirmed the project's commencement. While specifics remain under wraps, audiences can anticipate spectacular space combat sequences.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a critically acclaimed shooter drawing inspiration from Starship Troopers. Its phenomenal success is undeniable, achieving the status of PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. The recent Illuminate update, reintroducing enemies from the original Helldivers, further fueled its popularity.
Further expanding their cinematic universe, PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures (the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted adaptation) are also developing a Horizon Zero Dawn film. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse, stating, "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure fans that this world and its characters will receive their first cinematic treatment."
