Ubisoft is charting an ambitious path to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most expansive year yet for the pirate multiplayer game, introducing significant content updates such as new game modes, ships, a legendary Kraken, and the much-anticipated feature of land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled a treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year. The presentation was brimming with exciting content, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory, launching this fall, that will introduce the long-awaited land combat feature. Fans have been clamoring for this since the game's initial launch last February.
In Season 3, players will finally step away from the sea to engage in thrilling swordfights and gun battles on land. This is part of the Rogue Warlord update, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crew members known as Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse of what to expect, but full details will be revealed later this year.
While land combat is the highlight of Skull and Bones Year 2, the roadmap for 2025 is packed with other exciting additions. Season 1, Ascent into Chaos, launches today, April 15, and introduces a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set for summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the formidable Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, scheduled for this winter, will unveil the Kraken, Hunter’s Guild, and the powerful Corvette large ship.

Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has not disclosed official sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
