Street Fighter Tournament “Sleep Fighter” Announced in Japan
Sleep Points: A New Metric in Esports Competition
This team-based tournament features three-player teams battling in best-of-three matches for points. But here's the catch: sleep matters! In addition to match wins, teams earn "Sleep Points" based on their collective sleep hours.
For the week leading up to the August 31st event, each team member must log at least six hours of sleep nightly. Falling short of the 126-hour team total results in a five-point penalty for every deficient hour. The team with the most total sleep time also gets to choose the tournament's match conditions, adding a strategic layer beyond skill.
SS Pharmaceuticals highlights the importance of sleep for peak performance with their campaign, "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First." The Sleep Fighter tournament is reportedly the first esports event to penalize insufficient sleep.
The Sleep Fighter tournament takes place August 31st at Ryogoku KFC Hall in Tokyo. Limited to 100 attendees (lottery selection), the event will be livestreamed on YouTube and Twitch. Details on the broadcast will be announced via the official tournament website and Twitter (X) account.
The tournament boasts a stellar lineup of over a dozen professional players and streamers, including two-time EVO champion "Itazan" Itabashi Zangief and top SF player Dogura, promising an exciting blend of competitive gaming and sleep wellness advocacy.
