God of War Devs' New Sci-Fi IP Rumors Swell

Glauco Longhi, a seasoned character artist and game developer known for his work on the God of War series, has sparked excitement by suggesting that Santa Monica Studio is crafting a new game IP. This intriguing hint comes directly from Longhi's LinkedIn profile, where he mentions rejoining the studio earlier this year to lead character development on an "unannounced project."

Longhi's journey with Santa Monica Studio began with the critically acclaimed God of War (2018), where he eventually took on the role of lead character artist for God of War Ragnarok. His return to the studio was driven by an opportunity to supervise the "character development pipeline" for this mysterious new project.

"Supervising/Directing Character development on an unannounced project, and also helping the studio to continually push and raise the bar on Character Development for videogames," Longhi states on his profile.

Adding fuel to the rumor fire, Santa Monica Studio's creative director, Cory Barlog, hinted that the studio is involved in multiple projects. Longhi's profile further indicates that the studio is currently in the process of expanding its team, actively seeking a character artist and tools programmer in recent months, which suggests active development and growth.

Speculation has been rife about the nature of this new project, with many believing it could be a sci-fi IP. There have been whispers that Stig Asmussen, the creative director behind God of War 3, might be at the helm of this new venture. While nothing has been officially confirmed or announced, Sony's recent trademark of "Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet" has only added to the speculation. Additionally, years ago, rumors circulated about a potential sci-fi game for the PS4 from Santa Monica Studio, though that project was reportedly canceled.

Stay tuned for more updates as the gaming community eagerly awaits official word on what could be the next big hit from the creators of God of War.
