Ryan Reynolds has expressed skepticism about Deadpool joining the Avengers or X-Men, suggesting such a move would signal the end of the character's journey.
Despite the blockbuster success of *Deadpool & Wolverine* and the character's on-screen desire to become an Avenger, speculation has been swirling about a potential team-up in next year's *Avengers: Doomsday*.
Last month's massive *Avengers: Doomsday* cast announcement heavily featured veteran X-Men actors. Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden are all confirmed, firmly establishing the X-Men's significant role in the film. Grammer reprised his role as Beast for the MCU after a debut in *The Marvels'* post-credits scene. Stewart, who previously played Professor X, made a brief MCU appearance in *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*. McKellen (Magneto), Cumming (Nightcrawler), Romijn (Mystique), and Marsden (Cyclops) are all making their MCU debuts. This lineup has fans wondering: *Is Avengers: Doomsday secretly an Avengers vs. X-Men movie?*
Notably, Reynolds' name was absent from the extensive cast list for the superhero epic—though Channing Tatum, who played Gambit, did appear. New comments from Reynolds himself indicate a formal promotion for Deadpool to either team is unlikely.
"If Deadpool becomes an Avenger or an X-Man, we're at the end,” Reynolds told *Time*. “That's wish fulfillment, and you can't give him that.”
However, Reynolds hinted that a surprise cameo or supporting role might be more fitting, pointing to the positive fan reaction to Wesley Snipes' appearance as Blade in *Deadpool & Wolverine*.
If joining a major team isn't the right path, what is next for Deadpool? Reynolds revealed he is actively developing a new project featuring an "ensemble," though he remained cryptic on details.
"I'm writing a little something right now that's, I don't know, it's an ensemble," Reynolds added. "But, I like that [Deadpool] is isolated."
This could point to another Deadpool film packed with cameos, similar to *Deadpool & Wolverine*. Snipes' Blade could return, and Channing Tatum seems eager to reprise his role as Gambit. Other characters from the film, like Jennifer Garner's Elektra and Dafne Keen's X-23, could also be involved.

So, what is known about *Avengers: Doomsday*? Beyond the impressive cast, details are scarce. Earlier this month, Anthony Mackie—who will return as Sam Wilson/Captain America—said he believes the film "is going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had."
Mackie is the latest *Doomsday* star to comment publicly, following remarks from Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) and Joseph Quinn (Human Torch). This month also saw an apparent set photo leak that sparked intense fan speculation, with some interpreting it as bad news for the X-Men.
Fans are also speculating that Oscar Isaac might appear as Moon Knight, citing his withdrawal from a Star Wars event "due to changes in his production schedule."
Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige has confirmed the initial cast reveal was not exhaustive. “We revealed many, not all,” he stated during a CinemaCon video call.
