The first official trailer for the much-anticipated film "Rust" has been released, marking a significant moment for the project that faced a tragic incident during its production. The movie, which stars Alec Baldwin, was marred by a devastating accident on October 22, 2021, when a prop gun discharged by Baldwin accidentally killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

Scheduled for a theatrical release on May 2, 2025, "Rust" has now unveiled its trailer, giving audiences a glimpse into the film's narrative. The official synopsis details the story set in 1880s Kansas, where young Lucas McCalister (played by Patrick Scott McDermott), after accidentally killing a rancher, faces a death sentence. In a dramatic turn of events, his estranged grandfather, the notorious outlaw Harland Rust (portrayed by Alec Baldwin), rescues him from jail, leading them on a perilous journey to Mexico. As they navigate the harsh wilderness, they are pursued by the relentless U.S. Marshal Wood Helm (Josh Hopkins) and the ruthless bounty hunter 'Preacher' (Travis Fimmel).

The incident that led to Halyna Hutchins' tragic death occurred when Baldwin was rehearsing a scene, pointing the prop gun at the camera where Hutchins and Souza were positioned. The gun, believed to be a "cold gun" with no live rounds, discharged unexpectedly, leading to a series of legal repercussions. Charges against Baldwin were dropped in April 2023, while Rust's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison. First assistant director David Halls, responsible for ensuring the gun was safe, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge and received six months of probation.

"Rust" made its premiere at Poland's Camerimage Festival in November 2024, where it paid tribute to Halyna Hutchins during the credits. Although Baldwin was not present at the event, director Joel Souza attended and spoke movingly about Hutchins, emphasizing her passion for filmmaking and her lasting impact on those who knew her.
