Rumor: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Canceled

The highly anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, first teased in September 2021, remains shrouded in uncertainty. Recent claims suggest the project may have been indefinitely halted, dashing the hopes of many fans. This news comes from Alex Smith, former head of Bend Studio and a veteran of the Syphon Filter series.

Smith, via his X account, alleges that development on the SW: KotOR Remake has ceased completely, contradicting Saber Interactive's 2024 statement that work was ongoing. He further claims that some team members have been reassigned, while others have faced layoffs. Should this prove accurate, it would represent a significant setback for those eagerly awaiting the remake of this beloved RPG.

It’s important to note Smith’s track record. While he has accurately predicted industry news in the past—for instance, a new Housemarque title—his predictions regarding Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Tsushima release dates were incorrect. Therefore, his latest claims should be viewed with a degree of caution.

As of yet, neither Saber Interactive nor Aspyr, the studios involved, have offered any official comment, leaving the fate of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake hanging in the balance.
