Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced Now the Worst User-Reviewed GTA on Steam

Author : Sebastian Mar 18,2025

Rockstar's enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto 5, launched in March, hasn't received the warm welcome expected on Steam. With a "mixed" user review rating (54% positive out of 19,772 reviews), it's significantly less well-received than the original GTA 5 (now unlisted on Steam). In fact, it currently holds the dubious distinction of being the lowest-rated GTA game on Steam, even trailing Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition's 66% positive rating.

GTA 5 Enhanced is a free upgrade for PC players, incorporating features previously exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of GTA Online. This includes Hao's Special Works upgrades, new vehicles, animal encounters, GTA+ membership access, improved graphics, and faster loading times. Existing GTA 5 PC players can upgrade and migrate their Story Mode and Online progress.

However, account migration issues are causing significant frustration, dominating many negative reviews. Players report encountering the error message: "The GTA Online profile associated with this Rockstar Games account is not eligible for migration at this time." This has led to angry reactions, with some players vowing to abandon the Enhanced version and stick with the original until GTA 6 releases. The inability to migrate progress, coupled with unhelpful support, is a major source of complaint.

Despite these issues, GTA 5 Enhanced boasts a peak concurrent player count of 187,059 on Steam. Nevertheless, the problems are raising concerns about the potential for similar launch difficulties with Grand Theft Auto 6 on PC.
