Respawn Cancels Unannounced Multiplayer Shooter Set in the Titanfall Universe

A former employee of the studio recently shared on LinkedIn that a game in development at Respawn Entertainment has been abruptly halted this week. The project, which had been in the works for several years, was stopped without any official explanation provided. Last year, gaming journalist Jeff Grubb revealed that this was not a mainline entry in the Titanfall series, specifically not Titanfall 3. To bring this vision to life, Respawn assembled an "experimental team" dedicated to the project, hiring experts with a background in multiplayer shooter development.

This isn't the first time Respawn has faced project cancellation; they previously shut down another game known internally as Titanfall Legends, an arcade shooter, last year. The Titanfall franchise, which debuted in 2014, is renowned for its exhilarating mix of action and mech piloting. Players can engage in battles either as agile pilots or commanding formidable Titans. The series has carved out a niche for itself with its unique blend of parkour and intense team-based combat, earning a dedicated fanbase.

Currently, Respawn's focus has shifted to other ambitious projects. They are diligently working on the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series and collaborating with Bit Reactor on a new strategy game set within the expansive Star Wars universe.
