Rainbow Six Siege X Showcase Revealed New Details for the Update

Closed Beta Begins March 13, 2025

Ubisoft has officially announced that the Closed Beta for Rainbow Six Siege X (R6 Siege X) will commence on March 13, 2025, at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM CET, right after the R6 Siege X Showcase. The beta will run until March 19, 2025, at the same times. This is your chance to get an early taste of R6 Siege X by tuning into the R6 Siege X Showcase on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel or via various Content Creators' livestreams to earn Closed Beta Twitch drops. The beta will be accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

However, some players have reported issues with not receiving the expected email containing the access code for the Closed Beta. Ubisoft Support has acknowledged this on Twitter (X) on March 14 and is actively working to resolve the issue and send out the codes promptly.

It's crucial to understand that R6 Siege X is not a standalone new game but a significant update aimed at enhancing the existing game with graphical and technical upgrades.

New 6v6 Game Mode Dual Front

Ubisoft has introduced Dual Front, a dynamic new 6v6 game mode that promises to bring foundational upgrades to the core gameplay. These enhancements include visual improvements, an audio overhaul, upgraded rappelling mechanics, and more, alongside revamped player protection systems. Dual Front will offer free access, allowing players to experience the tactical action of Rainbow Six Siege without any cost.

The action will unfold on a new map called District, where two teams of six Operators will engage in a simultaneous attack and defense strategy, opening up new avenues for gadget synergy and tactical innovation. While Dual Front brings fresh excitement, the traditional Siege mode, now renamed "Core Siege," remains intact with modernized updates to five beloved maps: Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe. These maps will boast double texture resolution, optional 4K textures on PC, and enhanced destructible materials. Future seasons will see additional map updates, adding three maps at a time.

Free Access Starting Season 2 of Year 10

Rainbow Six Siege will transition to a free-to-play model starting in Season 2 of Year 10, following the footsteps of its major competitors. This shift aims to attract new players, as highlighted by Siege Game Director Alexander Karpazis during the R6 Siege X Showcase in Atlanta on March 13. "We want people to invite their friends to try out Siege, and we want to give them the majority of the game so that they understand what makes this game so special," Karpazis stated, emphasizing that Siege is most enjoyable when played with friends.

Free access will cover game modes such as Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front, but Ranked mode and the Siege Cup will remain exclusive to those with premium access. This strategy, as explained by former game director Leroy Athanassoff in a 2020 interview with PC Gamer, aims to deter smurfs and cheaters, ensuring that only committed players can access the most competitive aspects of the game.

Siege 2 Was Never On The Table

Despite reaching its 10-year anniversary, Ubisoft never considered creating a sequel, Siege 2. Unlike some of its FPS competitors, such as Overwatch 2 and Counter-Strike 2, the team behind R6 Siege chose to focus on enhancing the existing game. "Siege 2 was never on the table," Karpazis explained, noting that the decision was made to do what was best for both the game and its players.

Siege X has been in development for about three years, running parallel to the game's regular seasonal updates. The goal with Siege X is to lay the groundwork for another decade of gameplay, making significant and meaningful changes. Karpazis emphasized the importance of the community, stating, "You don't get to 10 years as a live service game without the community that built you up."

Rainbow Six Siege X is scheduled for release on June 10, 2025, and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned to our Rainbow Six Siege articles for the latest updates and information on the game.
