Sony's PlayStation PC Port Policy Shift: PSN Accounts Now Optional (For Some Titles)

PSN No Longer Mandatory for Several PC Ports
Beginning after the January 30, 2025 launch of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC, players will no longer be required to link a PSN account to play several PlayStation PC ports. This includes Marvel's Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and the upcoming April 2025 release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered. However, it's important to note that this change doesn't apply to all PC ports; titles like Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut and Until Dawn will still require PSN account linkage.
Exclusive Perks for PSN Account Holders
While PSN accounts are no longer mandatory, Sony is incentivizing players to maintain their connection. Those who log in with their PSN accounts will retain access to features like trophies and friend management. Furthermore, exclusive in-game bonuses are offered for the following titles:
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early unlock of the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarök: Unlock the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos (previously only available in New Game+) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered: +50 points to activate bonus features, and Ellie's Jordan's Jacket skin.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Access to the Nora Valiant outfit.
Sony has indicated that further incentives may be added in the future, as PlayStation Studios continues to explore ways to reward PSN account users.

This policy shift comes after significant player backlash. The mandatory PSN account requirement for Helldivers 2 in 2024 led to its delisting in numerous countries lacking PSN support, sparking widespread negative feedback. Similar criticism was directed at the God of War Ragnarök PC port. Sony's decision to make PSN accounts optional reflects a commitment to learning from past experiences and prioritizing player accessibility.
